About the role#
We are hiring a Project Engineer Co-op to join our team in Smithfield, North Carolina. This is a full-time, paid position for students currently in their 3rd or 4th year of study. You will work on-site and gain experience in geotechnical construction, including excavation support, earth retention, and deep foundations.
What you'll do#
- Use AutoCAD to develop elevation views and cross sections from project plan sheets.
- Perform material quantity takeoffs and solicit quotes from vendors.
- Help prepare project budgets by developing schedules and estimates for labor, materials, and equipment.
- Meet with the project team to develop construction action plans during the startup process.
- Conduct field testing on deep foundations, soil nails, and anchors.
- Maintain a clean worksite and clean equipment.
- Follow all safety protocols, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment and reporting accidents or near misses.
- Work around moving equipment and carry loads up to 100 pounds on uneven surfaces.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a 3rd or 4th year student in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA.
- A valid driver's license without restrictions and a driving record that meets company standards.
- Ability to pass a background check and a Worksteps Evaluation.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding safety rules, procedure manuals, and technical instructions.
- Ability to communicate in English to receive safety and training instructions in noisy environments.
