About the role#
Steel King Industries is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer Intern to join our team in Stevens Point. This role provides hands-on experience in the material handling industry by supporting our engineering and operations teams. You will work on process optimization, equipment performance, and continuous improvement projects while gaining exposure to production operations.
What you'll do#
- Assist in improving manufacturing processes to boost quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Participate in lean implementation and process improvement events like Kaizen activities.
- Support the layout, design, installation, and repair of equipment.
- Troubleshoot robotic systems and mechanical or electrical equipment.
- Analyze equipment and products to identify cost reduction opportunities.
- Create and update technical documents, including SOPs and safety guidelines.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Track performance metrics and assist with project reporting.
- Train production team members on new or modified equipment.
- Collaborate with maintenance, production, and engineering staff to resolve process issues.
- Attend team meetings to contribute to project planning and technical discussions.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of progress toward your degree is preferred.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with engineering software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documents.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently or as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Commitment to safety and the proper use of PPE.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is strongly desired.
- Metal fabrication experience is a plus.
- CAD experience is beneficial but not required.

- Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
- Term: Summer 2027 (June through August).
- Modality: On-site.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship.
- Standard hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM (hours may vary based on business needs).
