    About the role#

    The Risk Management Division at the State of Wisconsin Investment Board monitors investment, counterparty, liquidity, and operational risks. The team reports directly to the Executive Director and Chief Investment Officer. As an intern, you will contribute to this division by assessing organizational risks and maintaining key metric dashboards for leadership and the Investment Committee.

    What you'll do#

    • Build your understanding of investment management portfolios, strategies, and internal processes.
    • Work on projects to ensure the consistency and accuracy of risk management reporting.
    • Update procedures and controls for the investment risk function.
    • Design risk report templates and produce reports for the Investment Committee.
    • Support the team with daily risk monitoring.
    • Conduct ad-hoc risk analysis projects on both ex-post and ex-ante bases.

    What you'll need#

    • An advanced degree in finance, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
    • Proficiency in composing SQL queries and handling large structured financial data sets.
    • Understanding of data management lifecycles, including extraction, loading, and transformation.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • A commitment to detail, team collaboration, and independent work.
    • Ability to work under tight deadlines.
    • Experience with Python or VBA, quantitative analysis, or risk systems like FactSet, Aladdin, or Risk Manager is preferred.
    • Professional designations such as CFA, FRM, or PRM are a plus.
    • Prior work experience in risk analytics or at a buy side investment manager is a plus.

    Location & details#

    • This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site in Madison, Wisconsin.
    • The term lasts approximately 10 weeks, beginning in late May or early June 2027.
