About the role#
Standard Iron & Wire Works is looking for an Advanced Development Engineer Intern to support product development and manufacturing initiatives. You will work alongside experienced engineers on real projects that span the full development lifecycle, from initial concept through production launch. This position is designed for students who want to gain hands-on experience in a manufacturing setting while contributing to engineering solutions that meet customer requirements.
What you'll do#
- Assist with product design and development projects.
- Create and maintain engineering models, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Help develop, test, and validate prototypes.
- Participate in design improvement initiatives focused on quality, performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and sales.
- Analyze and resolve design and manufacturing challenges.
- Participate in project meetings and support communications with customers and suppliers.
- Apply engineering best practices and contribute ideas during design reviews.
- Support initiatives for continuous improvement and cost reduction.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, preferably with Junior or Senior standing.
- Strong academic foundation in engineering principles.
- Exposure to CAD software through coursework, design projects, or extracurricular activities.
- Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles and product design concepts.
- Interest in manufacturing processes, fabrication, and welding.
- Ability to analyze problems and develop practical solutions.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated mindset with a willingness to learn and work in a collaborative team environment.
