Environmental Student Intern

About the role#

The Southwest Florida Water Management District is seeking an Environmental Student Intern to support the Water Resources Bureau. This role involves working closely with project managers, engineers, and supervisors within the Water Supply Section on various projects and programs. This is an on-site position based in Brooksville, Florida.

What you'll do#

• Compile data, perform statistical analyses, and prepare data for presentations.
• Conduct field work to support water supply projects.
• Assist with processing Public Supply Annual Report (PSAR) data.
• Evaluate the economic impacts and cost effectiveness of District programs.
• Maintain databases, perform data entry, and develop tables and charts.
• Assist with administrative tasks, GIS projects, and map creation.

What you'll need#

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current enrollment in an accredited college or university.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or 3.0 for graduate students.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Experience with data collection, data entry, or database management.
• Preferred majors include Economics, Business Administration, Environmental Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds and perform repetitive tasks such as keyboarding.
• Ability to operate a District vehicle for two or more hours at a time.

Location & details#

• Location: Brooksville, Florida.
• Schedule: Part-time, typically up to 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
• Compensation: $16.00 per hour.
• Work environment: Primarily office-based, with some field work that may involve exposure to temperature extremes and various pests.
• Travel: Infrequent travel within the District's coverage area using a District vehicle is required.
