About the role#
The Environmental Resource Permit Student Intern works within the ERP Evaluation and Compliance Section to assist professional engineers in protecting Florida's wetlands, waterways, and natural systems. This position offers hands-on experience in regulatory compliance, permitting, and fieldwork, providing an opportunity to see how environmental regulations shape regional development.
What you'll do#
- Conduct investigations into water-resource permitting and compliance activities.
- Research and analyze files of record, including historical permits, engineering plans, and compliance reports.
- Review permit applications for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with regulatory standards.
- Generate professional correspondence, including review letters, follow-up requests, and internal summaries for engineering and compliance staff.
- Participate in construction inspection site visits to document project progress and verify compliance with permitted plans.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, with a preference for students pursuing degrees in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or 3.0 for graduate students.
- Valid driver's license.
Location & details#
- Location: Tampa, Florida.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Up to 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Compensation: $16.00 per hour.
- Travel: Some travel within the District's coverage area is required, occasionally using a District vehicle.
