The IT Support Technician Student provides first-level technical support for staff, faculty, and students at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). This role involves performing troubleshooting, analysis, and resolution across hardware, software, and network environments while assisting with incident resolution and technical initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Respond to technical incidents escalated to the Service Desk, providing support through remote, on-site, and face-to-face interactions.
- Communicate technical solutions in accessible terms to non-technical clients.
- Perform the setup, configuration, and recovery of endpoint devices and peripherals.
- Follow established processes for the deployment, replacement, and lifecycle tracking of hardware.
- Build knowledge in emerging technologies, institutional tools, and IT processes.
What you'll need#
- Must be a current SAIT student enrolled in and returning to a program in Computing Technology, Information Systems, or an IT-related field.
- Must be currently enrolled in course CPWK 255 or CPWK 3000.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate technical information for diverse audiences.
- Analytical mindset with strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and documentation abilities.
- Experience in IT support, endpoint management, or technical operations within an enterprise or higher-education environment is considered an asset.
- Experience in ITSM systems and ticket lifecycle management (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy) is considered an asset.
