About the role#
Skytop Lodge is hiring Culinary Externs for the Summer and Fall 2027 terms. This position offers students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional kitchen while working alongside our Executive Chef and culinary team. You will participate in daily service, banquet production, and menu development. This is a paid, full-time, on-site role based in Skytop, Pennsylvania.
What you'll do#
- Support the Executive Chef in preparing menu items and designing new dishes.
- Assist with the production of banquet events and check BEOs for special functions.
- Manage inventory by organizing stock and assisting with the ordering and receiving of raw products.
- Rotate, label, and date all items from the freezer and walk-in refrigerator daily.
- Help staff ensure quality execution of all food products.
- Maintain kitchen equipment, cleanliness, and a safe, hygienic work area.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a hotel, restaurant, culinary, or baking program.
- At least 6 months of prior experience in the culinary field.
- Proficiency with standard kitchen equipment and utensils.
- A solid understanding of recipes and scaling requirements.
- Knowledge of culinary techniques and food sanitation standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively with management and staff.
- Dependability, punctuality, and the ability to work well under pressure.
- Physical ability to stand for long hours, walk throughout the shift, and lift 50 pounds in high-temperature conditions.
