Reporting to the Senior Environmental Specialist, this intern position supports the Environmental Department at Vancouver Shipyards. You will assist in maintaining environmental compliance, supporting daily operations, and contributing to the implementation of environmental programs. This role involves working closely with the team on data collection, reporting, and administrative tasks within a heavy industrial environment.
What you'll do#
- Participate in internal environmental inspections to ensure policies are implemented and assist in addressing findings.
- Support spill prevention and response efforts, including incident investigations, reporting, and training.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports for the Senior Environmental Specialist by analyzing and interpreting environmental monitoring data.
- Assist with the management of hazardous waste and ensure compliance with the Ministry of Environment approved Operational Plan.
- Support internal and external environmental audits by organizing documentation and tracking actions.
- Participate in stormwater quality monitoring and sampling.
- Assist with corporate projects, including environmental performance tracking and updating internal communications.
- Support the development of educational materials and help facilitate environmental events.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a 2nd or 3rd year diploma or degree program in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal regulations regarding environmental management and sustainability.
- Familiarity with ISO14001 environmental management systems and the Green Marine Program.
- Ability to analyze data and produce clear information reports.
- Strong organizational skills and digital literacy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with diverse audiences.
- Willingness to learn about health and safety practices and comfort working in a heavy industrial setting.
- Experience conducting environmental risk or hazard assessments and spill response is an asset.

- Location: North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 8, 2026, to December 18, 2026).
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Compensation: $28.00 per hour.
- Security: This position is subject to a security clearance through the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
