About the role#
The Operations Engineering Intern joins the Technical Services team to gain experience in wind and solar operations and performance engineering. This role introduces you to the renewable energy industry and the responsibilities of a Reliability or Data Engineer. You will work on data analysis, asset troubleshooting, and process improvements to help the fleet perform better.
What you'll do#
- Collect and analyze data to troubleshoot wind and solar asset issues.
- Create new analytics and processes to improve energy output.
- Learn about real-time monitoring, generation tracking, and operational models by working with team members.
- Develop knowledge of wind turbine and solar data systems.
- Execute an individual project with support from the technical team.
- Present your project results to upper management at the end of the term.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering (Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical).
- Strong statistical and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and a desire to learn.
- Interest in the renewable energy industry.
- Experience with SQL, MatLab, R, or Python is preferred.
- Knowledge of RDBMS programs like MS SQL Server or Postgres is helpful.
- Familiarity with PowerBI or Tableau.
- Understanding of wind turbine aerodynamics, solar module physics, sensors, control logic, SCADA, energy systems, fiberglass, or composites.
Location & details#
- Location: Boulder, Colorado.
- Term: Summer 2027 (12 weeks, starting in May).
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $25 to $30 per hour, based on experience.
