About the role#
The Human Frontier Collective (HFC) Fellowship brings together researchers and domain experts to work on high-impact projects that shape the future of AI. Fellows apply their academic and professional expertise to design, evaluate, and interpret advanced generative AI systems while working within an interdisciplinary network. This is a six-month, independent contractor opportunity with the potential for extension.
What you'll do#
- Engage in high-impact projects with partnered AI labs and platforms.
- Design, review, and optimize PyTorch models to improve deep learning workflows.
- Evaluate complex ML code and AI-generated implementations for efficiency and correctness.
- Advise on GPU optimization, scaling, and technical trade-offs.
- Collaborate with the research team to co-author technical reports and research papers.
What you'll need#
- PhD or postdoctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 1-3+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer or Data Scientist.
- Strong proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure like AWS and MLOps tools including Docker and Langchain.
- Detail-oriented approach with a passion for applied AI research.

- Location: Remote (Canada).
- Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in Canada.
- Schedule: Flexible 10-40 hour weeks.
- Employment type: Full-time, paid independent contractor.
