About the role#
Ruekert & Mielke, Inc. is hiring a Civil Engineering Student Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Madison, Wisconsin. You will work outdoors on active infrastructure projects, gaining hands-on experience by supporting field inspections and collaborating with professional engineers, contractors, and municipal staff.
What you'll do#
- Support field inspections for sewer, water, and paving construction projects.
- Use measuring equipment to verify materials, line, and grade accuracy.
- Maintain project records and update documentation using electronic reporting software.
- Coordinate with project teams to keep construction schedules on track.
- Answer questions from the public regarding construction activity.
- Apply your classroom knowledge to solve practical engineering challenges.
- Assist with various field and office tasks as required.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- You have a strong work ethic, pay close attention to detail, and want to learn.
- You are comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions.
- You can communicate professionally with contractors, clients, and the public.
- You have basic math skills for measurements and estimations.
- You hold a valid driver license and have reliable transportation.
- Experience with CAD software, surveying, or construction is helpful but not required.
