Wellness Counselor Intern

About the role#

The Wellness Counselor Intern provides direct mental health services to students while offering consultation and coaching to school leaders and teachers. This position focuses on addressing trauma, mental health, and behavioral needs to support student success within an inclusion-based model. Interns work across one to two school sites, collaborating with school psychologists, behavior intervention specialists, and general education staff to foster a positive learning environment.

What you'll do#

• Create treatment plans and goals for educationally related mental health services, including social skills groups, general education counseling, and behavior supports.
• Provide culturally sensitive mental health services, such as individual and group counseling, therapeutic case management, and crisis intervention.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams during SST and MTSS meetings to support student needs.
• Maintain accurate case notes in compliance with state licensing boards and professional ethical codes.
• Provide crisis intervention for both general and special education students as needed.

What you'll need#

• Active enrollment in a Master’s level or higher mental health program, such as MSW, MFT, PCC, or School Counseling/PPSC.
• A strong commitment to Rocketship’s special education inclusion model and the mission to close the achievement gap.
• Ability to travel between multiple school sites.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Familiarity with socio-emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, MTSS, and restorative practices is highly preferred.
• Academic background in Psychology or Public Health.
