About the role#
As an Applied Scientist PhD Intern, you will join a team of scientists and engineers building machine learning methods for a platform with millions of daily users. You will work on projects that combine research with large-scale distributed engineering. This internship lasts 12 or 16 weeks and is available during the Winter, Summer, or Fall of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Own a high-impact project from ideation and experimentation through to production and potential publication.
- Prototype, test, and deploy advanced AI, machine learning, and 3D technologies.
- Translate research into features that run in production by working with cross-functional engineering and product teams.
- Build and optimize solutions that improve user experience, safety, and creativity.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing or possess a PhD in computer science, engineering, or a related field with a thesis aligned to our research areas.
- Deep technical expertise in areas such as deep learning, computer vision, NLP, reinforcement learning, or distributed systems.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language like Python, C++, Go, or Java.
- Experience building and optimizing systems at scale.
- A research track record with multiple publications and presentations in peer-reviewed venues.
Location & details#
- This role is based in San Mateo, California.
- The work modality is hybrid, with office attendance expected on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- This is a paid, full-time internship position.
