About the role#
This internship provides undergraduate engineers with direct exposure to shaft sinking operations and underground mine development. You will rotate between site departments to learn how each contributes to project success and complete a project assigned by the engineering manager. You will gain insight into the coordination between engineering, geology, and construction teams while receiving mentorship from industry professionals.
What you'll do#
- Assist with daily inspections and documentation of shaft sinking operations.
- Support engineering and construction teams with progress tracking, reporting, and logistics.
- Observe key shaft sinking processes, including drilling, mucking, lining, and ground support installation.
- Participate in safety meetings and ensure adherence to protocols for confined spaces and hoisting.
- Maintain records of shaft depth, advance rates, and material usage.
- Shadow professionals to understand the integration of geotechnical data, ventilation planning, and water management.
- Contribute to quality control by verifying alignment, concrete placement, and equipment calibration.
- Perform administrative tasks such as updating drawings, filing permits, and preparing shift reports.
- Conduct Field Level Risk Assessments and maintain a safe, hazard-free work area.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program for Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with AutoCAD or mine planning software.
- Ability to read and understand engineering prints for civil, structural, and rock excavation work.
- Knowledge of underground mining environments and relevant construction regulations.
- Strong organizational, communication, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work in remote, physically demanding environments.
- A current state driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and physical examination.

- Location: Patagonia, Arizona.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: This role requires working in excess of 40 hours per week, including overtime, days, nights, weekends, holidays, and shift rotations.
