About the role#
Rakuten Kobo is looking for a QA Intern to join the eReader team starting in January 2027. You will help deliver high-quality software and reading experiences across our eReader platform. This role involves working with QA Engineers, developers, and product managers to validate new features and support testing throughout the development lifecycle. You will also help maintain our test infrastructure and device ecosystem to ensure teams have the tools they need to develop and test Kobo products.
What you'll do#
- Execute functional, regression, integration, and system testing on eReader software and devices.
- Create, maintain, and execute test cases and test plans for new and existing features.
- Document, track, and verify software defects with clear reproduction steps.
- Validate bug fixes and identify potential quality risks before release.
- Participate in feature reviews and testing discussions to understand quality expectations.
- Collaborate with QA Engineers and developers to investigate issues and improve product quality.
- Assist with the day-to-day operation and organization of the test lab.
- Prepare and configure eReaders and test equipment.
- Maintain device inventories and ensure access to required software and tools.
- Support troubleshooting by collecting diagnostic logs and reproducing issues.
- Contribute to the improvement of testing practices and team processes.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical program.
- Familiarity with at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python.
- Basic understanding of software development and testing concepts.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
- Experience using common productivity and collaboration tools.
- Exposure to software testing through coursework, personal projects, or previous internships.
- Familiarity with Git, Jira, or other software development tools.
- Experience with Linux, command-line tools, or scripting.
- Exposure to mobile, embedded, or consumer electronics devices.
- Interest in automation, continuous integration, or test infrastructure.
- Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, or networking issues.
