Intern - Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)

About the role#

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Intern supports the EHS department in ensuring workplace compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role involves conducting safety walks in a processing environment, auditing, updating safety protocols, and contributing to sustainability projects. Interns will also manage specific initiatives, including a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) project and the maintenance of driver HAZMAT qualification files.

What you'll do#

• Assist with EHS inspections, hazard assessment reviews, and compliance audits for OSHA and EPA regulations.
• Prepare and conduct employee training, safety presentations, and safety orientation materials.
• Participate in root cause investigations for accidents, near-misses, and injuries, and help implement corrective actions.
• Perform job hazard analyses for equipment and new processes to identify potential risks.
• Maintain databases related to safety metrics, chemical inventories, and environmental compliance.
• Support hazardous waste management and calculate TRIR and DART metrics.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Health Administration, EHS, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, RCRA, FMCSA, and DOT regulations.
