Intern - Chemical Engineering

About the role#

The Chemical Engineering Intern will support engineering and operations projects at the Chicago site. This role focuses on project coordination, documentation, and execution support for small capital and expense projects within a chemical manufacturing environment.

What you'll do#

• Support small capital and expense projects through scope definition, coordination, tracking, and status reporting.
• Coordinate activities between engineering, operations, maintenance, contractors, and suppliers.
• Prepare technical summaries, reports, and presentations for stakeholders and leadership.
• Manage project documentation, including action item lists, schedules, purchase orders, and closeout records.
• Participate in project meetings, prepare agendas and notes, and track follow-up actions.
• Support procurement tasks such as requisitions, purchase order tracking, and material delivery coordination.
• Perform data gathering, engineering calculations, and assist with Management of Change (MOC) documentation.
• Support the revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and engineering drawings.
• Conduct field work including site walkdowns, data collection, and coordination with operations, which may involve lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, and using basic hand tools.
• Adhere to all site safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (sophomore level or higher preferred).
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work safely in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read or develop basic engineering drawings; AutoCAD experience is a plus.
