Software Engineer Intern- Runtime, Robotics

About the role#

Plus is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to join the Runtime Platform team. This role focuses on evolving the communication backbone of autonomous vehicle software by integrating ROS2 into a high-performance stack. You will work on migrating established features to a ROS2-based architecture while ensuring system reliability and performance.

What you'll do#

• Transition systems toward ROS2 and DDS (Data Distribution Service) paradigms.
• Design bridges and custom RMW (ROS Middleware) configurations to enable interoperability between existing robot logic and new ROS2-native nodes.
• Establish benchmarking suites to evaluate the efficiency, latency, and throughput of hybrid systems.
• Execute on-vehicle deployments, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and performance optimization.
• Take projects from lab environments to full-scale road testing on physical hardware to ensure real-world stability.

What you'll need#

• Advanced proficiency in C++ (17 or later) with a background in systems-level programming and software design patterns.
• Familiarity with the ROS2 ecosystem, including nodes, pub/sub, and services.
• Experience or interest in benchmarking software performance and identifying optimization opportunities.
• Proficiency in Linux environments and debugging hardware-software interfaces.
• Familiarity with robotics middleware such as ROS, DDS, or Cyber RT is highly preferred.
• Current pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
