Software Engineer Intern - Data Infrastructure and Tools

About the role#

Plus is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to join the Data Infrastructure and Tools team. This role focuses on scaling systems, harnessing cloud technologies, and improving data processing pipelines. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to transition manual performance checks into fully automated data pipelines, impacting high-growth autonomous truck technology.

What you'll do#

• Build and maintain continuous automated monitoring pipelines for system performance characteristics, such as node start times, system-critical code sections, and end-to-end latency metrics.
• Integrate performance tracking into release branch Continuous Integration (CI) environments and build on-demand testing capabilities for GitHub/GitLab Pull Requests.
• Develop mechanisms to automatically detect, flag, and escalate performance outliers and regressions in real-time.
• Create systems or dashboards to track and visualize performance trends based on variables like workload and geographic location.

What you'll need#

• Strong, hands-on programming experience with Python for backend development and automation.
• Solid understanding of backend software development principles, data structures, and system architecture.
• Foundational understanding of Continuous Integration workflows, version control (Git), and automated testing principles.
• Strong problem-solving skills with an interest in analyzing system metrics and identifying bottlenecks.
• Preferred: Experience with JavaScript, CI/CD platforms (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions), observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus), and data pipeline management.
• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or Electrical Engineering.
