Simulation Engineer Intern

About the role#

Plus is seeking a Simulation Engineer Intern to join the Data team. This role focuses on utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) to automate the creation of realistic driving scenarios based on defined Operational Design Domains (ODDs). You will work on projects involving deontic logic and synthetic data generation to advance autonomous vehicle testing.

What you'll do#

• Architect and implement pipelines that leverage LLMs to generate structured, realistic driving scenarios.
• Convert complex ODDs and safety guidelines into effective prompt frameworks and programmatic constraints.
• Interface LLM-generated scenarios directly with autonomous vehicle simulation environments to create executable testing grounds.
• Incorporate rule-based constraints, including deontic logic, to ensure scenarios adhere to or test traffic laws, rights-of-way, and safety protocols.
• Collaborate with simulation and machine learning teams to evaluate scenario realism, diversity, and edge-case coverage, refining models as necessary.

What you'll need#

• Strong understanding of Large Language Models, including prompt engineering, API integration, and structuring LLM outputs.
• Hands-on programming proficiency in Python for machine learning workflows and scripting.
• Ability to translate abstract, real-world concepts like traffic rules and driving environments into structured data and logic.
• An analytical mindset with an interest in the intersection of AI and physical-world simulation.
• Preferred: Familiarity with autonomous vehicle simulation platforms, procedural generation, autonomous driving concepts (ODDs, ADAS, NHTSA guidelines), formal logic, or synthetic data generation.
