Machine Learning Engineer Intern

About the role#

Plus is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer Intern to join our Data team for the Summer 2026 term. This role focuses on developing an internal AI assistant that enables employees to query company knowledge and autonomous driving test results using natural language. You will work on building a secure system that synthesizes complex data from simulation and road tests to provide actionable insights on performance metrics.

What you'll do#

• Develop and deploy an internal AI chatbot for natural language querying of company knowledge and test results.
• Design and build a secure Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline to access internal data while maintaining data privacy.
• Create automated pipelines to ingest, clean, and structure data from internal documents, Slack conversations, and autonomous driving databases including bagdb, pluscene, and right-seater logs.
• Fine-tune open-source models, such as Qwen, to process company-specific terminology and autonomous vehicle (AV) testing metrics.
• Enable the system to synthesize data across simulation and road tests to report on passing rates, test mileages, coverage gaps, and testing recommendations.

What you'll need#

• Solid understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), natural language processing, and prompt engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Python for machine learning workflows, scripting, and backend system integration.
• Experience building data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) pipelines with structured and unstructured data.
• Core understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation workflows, text chunking, and vector embeddings.
• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Computer Engineering.
