About the role#
The Patient Financial Services Intern will receive training in the fundamental aspects of medical billing and collections. You will work under the guidance of the Manager of Patient Financial Services to learn about insurance payer requirements and the revenue cycle process. This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship based in Tempe, Arizona.
What you'll do#
- Receive training in medical billing and collections.
- Contact insurance and government agencies to verify eligibility and discuss benefits.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims electronically and by paper.
- Follow up on outstanding insurance and patient account balances.
- Document all collection activity and payer correspondence within the billing system.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment in an education-related internship through a certified program.
- Majors in Health Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or Public Health.
- General PC skills, including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Proficiency with email and web navigation.
- Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment.
