About the role#
As an HSE Student in Long Beach, you will gain hands-on field experience by working alongside project teams. You will help advance health, safety, and environmental initiatives on construction projects.
What you'll do#
- Monitor and assist with the implementation of the project HSE plan, environmental plans, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and help conduct project-specific HSE training.
- Provide the project team with safety information and trends to help create action plans.
- Assist in developing and using hazard identification tools.
- Conduct safety inspections and verify that corrective actions are completed.
- Support the team with emergency response plans and monitor project security.
- Review trade documentation and monitor trade contractor safety compliance.
- Verify that equipment and tool inspections are documented correctly.
- Notify stakeholders of incidents and assist with investigations.
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program, preferably working toward a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Progress toward a safety designation.
- Ability to learn OH&S and environmental legislation.
- Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to resolve conflicts with craft workers and maintain stakeholder relationships.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Capacity to learn construction processes and terminology.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and an aptitude for learning new technology.
