About the role#
Paumanok Veterinary Hospital offers an externship program for DVM students to gain practical experience in a small animal practice. This program is designed to help you build confidence and prepare for clinical practice after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team under the supervision of a mentor doctor to meet your specific educational goals. We provide a stipend of $250 per week for the duration of your rotation.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in the daily operations of our hospital. You will work on a variety of tasks including:
- Gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrubbing in to surgery and assisting in medical case management.
- Providing wellness care to patients.
- Developing client communication skills and technical abilities.
- Producing medical records, including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Current professional liability insurance.
- A commitment to professional and ethical behavior at all times.
Location & details#
- Location: Patchogue, New York.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling enrollment with rotations ranging from two to eight weeks.
- Schedule: Includes days, evenings, and weekends.
