About the role#
Park Grove Pet Hospital offers a flexible externship program for veterinary students. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice setting. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience and prepare for your career after graduation. Rotations typically last two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to fit your college curriculum. You will be assigned a mentor to guide your learning and provide a written evaluation at the end of your rotation.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for small animal cases.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in medical case management.
- Provide wellness care to patients.
- Develop client communication skills.
- Produce medical records including SOAPs.
- Participate in a schedule that includes days, evenings, and weekends.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- Familiarity with the Veterinary Practice Act regarding the scope of duties and supervision requirements.
- Professional conduct and attire consistent with our team standards.
