About the role#
Palo Alto University is hiring a Teaching Assistant I for the Fall 2026 term to support the SOCW 600 Human Behavior in the Social Environment course. This position involves up to 10 hours of work per week. The role is primarily remote, though you must be available to provide in-person assistance for one day at the start of the quarter during the immersion residency.
What you'll do#
- Support the review and assessment of student assignments.
- Manage the Canvas course, including the creation of tasks and assignments.
- Moderate the classroom environment, provide technical assistance, and organize student engagement.
- Facilitate group discussions and activities.
- Provide tutoring and hold office hours.
- Create and present teaching materials, didactics, and guest lectures.
- Ensure course materials are accessible and support exam proctoring.
- Attend the Teaching Assistant Orientation training.
- Assist with a BBS licensing course as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a PhD or PsyD student in good standing at PAU, specifically in your 2nd or 3rd year of study.
- Advanced understanding of the subject matter related to human behavior in the social environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Excellent classroom management abilities and the capacity to create a comfortable learning environment.
- A strong work ethic, dependability, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience is preferred.

- Position is based in Palo Alto, California.
- Work is primarily remote with a one-day in-person requirement.
- This is a paid position at $20.00 per hour.
- The term runs from September 10, 2026, to December 16, 2026.
