    About the role#

    This summer internship provides a hands-on opportunity to support R&D, product innovation, and process improvement at Palermo's Pizza. You will work with bakery scientists, product developers, quality, operations, supply chain, and IT teams to optimize workflows and improve data visibility across product development activities.

    What you'll do#

    • Map current R&D workflows from concept through commercialization, identifying decision points, handoffs, and opportunities to reduce bottlenecks.
    • Catalog R&D data sources, including formulas, trial records, sensory results, shelf-life observations, and production feedback.
    • Evaluate data consistency and recommend standards for naming, data dictionaries, storage practices, and quality checks.
    • Analyze data to identify trends and gaps, and support the creation of dashboards and scorecards to track experiments, product performance, and project status.
    • Identify repetitive manual tasks and prototype automation solutions using tools such as Excel, Power Query, SharePoint, Power BI, or Python.
    • Research best practices in data management and automation to provide recommendations for data governance and process documentation.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a degree program for Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Analytics, Food Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
    • Minimum Junior standing.
    • Interest in food science, bakery, product development, or manufacturing processes.
