Cyber Security Intern (SOE)

About the role#

This entry-level internship provides hands-on experience in a critical federal environment, supporting cybersecurity efforts for the Department of Energy Hanford Site. Interns will rotate through various disciplines, including vulnerability management, security operations, governance, and compliance. This full-time role (30–40 hours per week) is designed to help students develop foundational skills while learning from experienced professionals in the field.

What you'll do#

• Assist with the execution and analysis of vulnerability scans across systems and networks.
• Support research on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security advisories.
• Participate in security compliance assessments and audits, including evidence gathering and documentation.
• Monitor and analyze security events and alerts within the Security Operations Center (SOC).
• Coordinate logistics for security awareness campaigns, training sessions, and communication efforts.
• Contribute to the development of cybersecurity procedures and record-keeping for program activities.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree program in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity and a desire to grow professionally.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening, including testing for cannabis as required by federal contract obligations.
• Possession of identification compliant with the Real ID Act at the time of hire.
• High degree of sensitivity regarding confidential information and strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• US citizenship and residency within the United States.

• Location: Anchorage, Alaska (Remote work modality).
• Compensation: $21.00–$32.50 per hour.
• Term: Rolling.
