About the role#
This is a full-time, paid Summer 2027 internship based on-site in Ontario, New York. You will support one or more teams, moving from observing operations to participating in them directly. Your assignments will focus on real-world projects that immerse you in our manufacturing processes. You will also have opportunities to connect with the broader Optimax community and fellow interns.
What you'll do#
Interns work on a wide variety of tasks depending on current project needs. Your responsibilities may include:
- Methodology improvement projects and design for manufacture studies.
- Identifying trends and determining root causes for non-conformances.
- Developing measurement systems and iterating work instructions.
- Creating or improving tool designs.
- Robotics test and build, mechanical builds, and system tests.
- Conducting laser power experiments.
- Data analysis and supplier management.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old by the start date.
- You must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR regulations.
- You are currently pursuing a degree in Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Optics, Materials Science, or Precision Machining.
- Prior coursework or experience in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Metrology is strongly preferred.
- You possess analytical troubleshooting skills and the ability to build clear problem statements.
- You work well both independently and as part of a team.
- You demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
- You have the initiative to learn new skills and adapt to different functional areas.
- You communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
Location & details#
This role is located in Ontario, New York. You will work in a manufacturing environment that may involve exposure to oils, solvents, and moving mechanical parts. The role requires the ability to stand, walk, and perform tasks that may involve varied noise levels. We do not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
