About the role#
Oath Animal Hospital offers a Veterinary Technician Student Externship and Preceptorship Program designed to provide practical clinical experience. This program focuses on preparing students for their careers by offering mentorship from experienced professionals, exposure to routine and emergency care, and hands-on involvement in clinical procedures. The program is open to students currently enrolled in an accredited Veterinary Technician program.
What you'll do#
As a participant, you will work alongside veterinarians, technicians, and support staff to gain experience in various clinical duties. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with examinations, diagnostics, and treatments
- Administering medications and vaccinations
- Monitoring anesthesia during surgeries
- Conducting laboratory tests, such as bloodwork and urinalysis
- Taking radiographs
- Caring for hospitalized animals
- Educating pet owners on preventive care
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Veterinary Technician program
- A strong passion for animal care and a desire to learn
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Basic knowledge of animal handling and medical terminology is preferred
- An enthusiastic approach to patient care
