About the role#
Oath Animal Hospital offers an externship program for students currently enrolled in an accredited DVM program. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team to practice problem-solving, technical, and communication skills under supervision. Each student is assigned a mentor to help meet your specific learning goals and college requirements. We provide a $250 weekly stipend for the duration of your rotation.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in all aspects of patient care, including:
- Gathering patient histories
- Performing physical examinations
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans
- Scrubbing in to surgery
- Assisting in medical case management
- Providing wellness care
- Developing client communication skills
- Polishing technical skills
- Producing medical records (SOAPs)
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Proof of professional liability insurance
- Familiarity with the Veterinary Practice Act
- Professional conduct and adherence to our practice standards

- Location: East Meadow, New York
- Modality: On-site
- Schedule: Flexible rotations ranging from two to eight weeks, including days, evenings, and weekends
