About the role#
As a Mission Dev Engineer intern, you will work directly with engineers building and testing hardware systems like rockets, nuclear reactors, and supersonic aircraft. This role focuses on forward deployed software engineering, where you will learn customer workflows, identify bottlenecks, and build software to help them move faster. You will combine hands-on coding with product judgment to ensure your solutions solve real problems.
What you'll do#
- Work with customer engineers to understand their testing and analysis workflows and identify software solutions.
- Design and build integrations, data pipelines, and applications that connect Nominal to customer systems.
- Manage high-frequency and high-volume hardware data.
- Take ownership of projects from the initial problem definition through deployment and support.
- Put working software into the hands of users early and iterate based on their feedback.
- Share your findings with our internal product and engineering teams to help scale solutions.
What you'll need#
- On track to graduate in Summer 2028 or sooner.
- Strong core engineering fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience building software through internships, personal projects, or academic work.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar systems and work through open-ended problems.
- Resourceful and perseverant approach to engineering.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
