About the role#
The Summer Associate will join the Internal Audit IT Audit Team for a 12-week program from May 2027 to August 2027. This team evaluates risk management and the effectiveness of internal controls across information technology and security areas. You will work in a hybrid capacity and report to leadership at one of our campuses.
What you'll do#
- Assist with IT governance and application audits following industry and internal standards.
- Conduct preliminary research and participate in process walkthroughs to document workflows.
- Identify key risks and controls while obtaining evidence for testing.
- Review audit evidence to determine the design and operating effectiveness of controls.
- Perform IT control testing and document results according to professional standards.
- Prepare audit workpapers to support observations and conclusions.
- Summarize potential issues for discussion with the Auditor-In-Charge.
- Use Microsoft Copilot and AI agents as primary tools to support research, analysis, and project development.
- Manage your own workload and timelines, reporting any delays to management.
- Collaborate with team members and other Summer Associates on projects and stretch assignments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- An anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Familiarity with internal audit functions and processes.
- Knowledge of IT risk, general controls, or information security frameworks.
- Experience with Copilot or other AI systems.
- Strong research, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Experience interpreting and applying data, guidelines, and regulations.
- An interest in audit, risk management, or enterprise governance.

- Locations: Vienna, VA; Pensacola, FL; or Winchester, VA.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship.
