About the role#
The Enterprise Credit Risk team provides independent oversight for all lending activities at Navy Federal Credit Union. As a Summer Associate, you will join the Credit Risk Analytics, Modeling, and Monitoring team. You will work on projects involving data extraction, manipulation, visualization, and decision science analytics. This 12-week program includes formal training in credit risk management to help you contribute to our consumer lending products, including auto, credit card, and real estate loans.
What you'll do#
- Analyze historical loan performance data, financial statements, and alternative data sources to provide insights.
- Conduct research on wholesale credit and counterparty risk, including evaluating debt issuers and vendors.
- Examine annual reports, financial metrics, and industry trends to assess creditworthiness.
- Assist in developing challenger loss forecasting models and tracking performance metrics.
- Evaluate how changes in the economic, regulatory, and competitive environment impact credit risk.
- Perform root-cause analyses to identify key performance drivers.
- Create and maintain reports to track credit risk indicators and financial performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support risk analysis for product and operational strategies.
- Prepare reports for senior management and present findings to senior analysts.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or graduate degree program with a quantitative focus, such as Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Administration, Finance, or Economics.
- An anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Experience with research, analysis, and data manipulation.
- Proficiency with data and analytic tools like Excel, SQL, Tableau, PowerBI, SAS, Python, or R.
- Ability to work with large datasets and communicate analytical stories effectively.
- Strong strategic, critical, and analytical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and think creatively.
- Basic knowledge of financial services is a plus.

- Term: Summer 2027 (May to August).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM ET.
