About the role#
National Beef is looking for college students to join our team as an Engineering Intern for the summer of 2027. This 10-12 week program provides hands-on experience within a beef processing facility. You will work directly with maintenance and engineering staff to support operations, safety, and process optimization. This is a paid, on-site position. A housing allowance is provided where required.
What you'll do#
- Gain insight into the mechanical, electrical, control, and utility systems used in a modern food processing facility.
- Support process equipment uptime and observe how manufacturing processes are designed and maintained.
- Learn how plant processes are monitored and controlled.
- Observe how safety is incorporated into production systems and areas.
- Support the design and implementation of new systems or equipment.
- Work with plant personnel to ensure proper methods and procedures for equipment operations.
- Participate in the execution and oversight of preventative maintenance and repair tasks.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Department and network with senior leadership.
- Prepare detailed reports for senior management and department heads summarizing your experiences.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least two years in an accredited degree program focusing on Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 in core curriculum classes.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and on-campus involvement.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed on project work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Availability to work 40+ hours per week, including some weekends, on-site for the duration of the internship.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Authorization to work for any employer in the U.S. (visa sponsorship is not available).
