    About the role#

    This internship provides an opportunity to support the Public Policy, Advocacy, and Media Relations team at NAFSA. The role is designed for students interested in careers in government relations, public policy, advocacy, and international education. Interns will gain experience in a nonprofit association environment while contributing to efforts that promote international exchange and global engagement.

    What you'll do#

    • Collect and publish international education success stories featuring students, scholars, and study abroad participants.
    • Support the U.S. for Success Coalition through research, writing, and administrative tasks.
    • Track congressional outreach and positive actions using a congressional management system.
    • Research and report on legislation and regulations that impact international education.
    • Attend and report on meetings, briefings, and hearings on Capitol Hill.
    • Assist in the preparation and dissemination of press releases and statements.
    • Write content for the NAFSA blog, social media channels, and member communications.
    • Help plan and execute events such as Advocacy Day and Hill briefings.
    • Compile and analyze media coverage related to international education, immigration, and foreign policy.

    What you'll need#

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word.
    • Experience in customer service.
    • Familiarity with Zoom and social media platforms.
    • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • A strong interest in public policy, U.S. government, politics, immigration, or international relations.
    • Current enrollment in a degree program such as Political Science, International Relations, Communications, or Public Health.
    • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, including eligibility for CPT, OPT, or academic training.

    • Location: Washington, DC.
    • Term: Fall 2026 (September through mid-December).
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Compensation: $18.40 per hour for up to 20 hours per week.
