About the role#
We are looking for a Flight Software Engineering Intern to join our team for the Summer 2027 term. You will work alongside flight software engineers to build the software that runs our satellites and the tools we use to test them. This role is a full-time, on-site position based in San Jose or Mountain View, California.
What you'll do#
- Develop software for spacecraft or supporting development and test tools.
- Propose and iterate on software designs with guidance from the team.
- Write automated tests and use simulation or hardware testing to validate your work.
- Investigate and debug software issues, including interactions between software and hardware.
- Participate in code reviews.
- Document your work so other engineers can use and maintain it.
What you'll need#
- Programming experience in C, C++, Python, or a similar language through coursework, personal projects, research, or previous internships.
- Coursework or practical experience in data structures, algorithms, and software development fundamentals.
- Ability to break down problems, test assumptions, and work through bugs.
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar tools and systems.
- Ability to ask questions and communicate technical ideas with teammates.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Previous internship, co-op, or technical project team experience is a plus.
- Understanding of physics and orbital mechanics.
- Experience working with microcontrollers, sensors, or other hardware.
- Experience reading technical documentation and datasheets.
- Exposure to operating systems, real-time software, communication protocols, or simulation.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship located on-site in San Jose or Mountain View, California.
- Compensation is $40/hour for Bachelor's students, $45/hour for Master's students, and $50/hour for PhD students.
- This position requires access to export-controlled information. Applicants must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible to access this information under U.S. government regulations.
