About the role#
The Electrical Engineering team at Muon manages all spacecraft electronics, from batteries to flight computers and payloads. As an intern, you will own projects from start to finish, such as designing a PCBA for a new capability or developing tests for production avionics. This is a full-time, on-site role based in San Jose, California.
What you'll do#
- Design hardware or firmware for spacecraft and payloads.
- Lead or assist in test campaigns and improve existing test setups.
- Perform analysis to support development and testing phases.
- Conduct measurement activities in the lab, either on the bench or in a clean room.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a Senior planning to enroll directly into an EE graduate program.
- Familiarity with schematic capture and layout software like Altium or KiCAD.
- Experience with Oscilloscopes, Electronic Loads, and DMMs.
- Practical experience designing, testing, and debugging PCBAs.
- Basic programming skills in C/C++ or Python.
- Bonus points for experience with component test racks, hardware-in-the-loop testing, wire harness design, soldering, or battery cell characterization.
- Previous experience on technical project teams or through prior internships is helpful.
Location & details#
- Location: San Jose, CA (On-site).
- Term: Summer 2027 (May through September).
- Compensation: $40/hour for Bachelor's students, $45/hour for Master's students, and $50/hour for PhD students.
- This position requires access to export-controlled information, necessitating U.S. person status or eligibility for export authorization.
