About the role#
The Mohawk Students' Association (MSA) is hiring a Cook to provide daily operational support across our food service outlets. You will work under the direction of the Chef to deliver high-quality service while supporting student-driven values. This role focuses on food production, customer service, and maintaining daily business operations. You will interact regularly with students, staff, and partners to ensure a positive experience.
What you'll do#
- Execute daily food service operations, including cooking, prepping, and production.
- Handle open and closing duties, such as line set up, equipment checks, and outlet tear down.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment while following all health and safety policies.
- Deliver food orders accurately and on time.
- Manage stock levels and assist with inventory control.
- Communicate student feedback and food security needs to the team.
- Maintain deep menu knowledge to assist guests with dietary restrictions and allergy questions.
- Report maintenance, equipment, or safety issues to management.
- Provide support to other outlets as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mohawk College program.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
- Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, and kitchen equipment.
- Customer service experience.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
- Comfort working in a digital environment.
- Preferred: Experience in a food service environment, familiarity with POS systems, and knowledge of dietary restrictions.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
Location & details#
- Location: Hamilton, Ontario.
- Modality: On-site.
- Hours: Part-time, 0 to 20 hours per week, including potential evenings and weekends.
- Compensation: $21 per hour.
- Term: 4-month contract.
