Metropolitan Family Services is seeking interns for the Domestic Violence Supportive Services program in DuPage for the Fall 2026 term. This is an unpaid, part-time internship designed for students needing to complete course or graduation requirements. Interns will work on-site in Wheaton, Illinois, and must complete a minimum of 300 hours during the term.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct services to survivors of domestic abuse and their children, including crisis intervention, safety planning, emotional support, advocacy, life skills development, parenting support, and referrals.
- Assess client needs and respond using short-term, strengths-based interventions.
- Collaborate with clients to develop and regularly review service plans, tracking progress toward established goals.
- Facilitate linkages with internal and community-based resources.
- Administer required assessments and outcome tools at designated intervals.
- Participate in team meetings, mandatory group supervision, and professional development workshops.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including case notes and required reports.
- Represent the program professionally while working within contract and grant expectations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's level program, with a focus in Psychology, Sociology, or Public Health.
- Access to a reliable vehicle, proof of insurance, and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass all relevant screening and criminal background checks.
- Ability to sit or stand for sustained periods, use computer equipment, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
