About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship based in Rochester, Minnesota. You will work within the Mechanical Development Unit of the Division of Engineering. You will join a multidisciplinary team to develop unique devices and systems for researchers and providers. You will receive guidance from mentors who provide instruction and assess your performance throughout the term.
What you'll do#
- Perform computer-aided design (CAD) using SolidWorks.
- Develop prototypes using traditional and additive manufacturing technologies.
- Design components and evaluate commercial parts.
- Gather user needs, requirements, and specifications.
- Assemble prototype systems and perform troubleshooting.
- Conduct design verification and validation testing.
- Participate in design reviews and develop project strategies.
- Complete engineering documentation and all required internship reports.
- Learn the procedures and processes of the Division of Engineering.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an engineering, management information systems, or technology-related degree program.
- Completion of at least four semesters of instruction toward your degree.
- A minimum GPA of 3.3.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks.
- Experience with design for manufacturing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
