About the role#
LiquidPiston is hiring Design Engineer Interns for the Fall 2026 term. You will work within our mechanical design and engine development teams to support the creation of rotary engine components. This role involves taking designs from initial concepts through CAD modeling, analysis, prototyping, and testing. You will work alongside senior engineers and test teams in a hands-on environment.
What you'll do#
- Support the conceptual and detailed design of rotary engine components, such as housings, rotors, and cooling systems, using SolidWorks.
- Create and modify 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings in accordance with ASME standards.
- Assist with design analysis through hand calculations and collaboration with simulation engineers.
- Prepare files for additive manufacturing and participate in rapid prototyping.
- Iterate on designs based on feedback from simulation results and engine testing.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent software for solid modeling, assemblies, and drawings.
- A hands-on mindset with experience in prototyping, basic machining, or 3D printing.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- U.S. person status, such as a citizen or permanent resident, is preferred due to the nature of defense and aerospace projects.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site in Suffield, Connecticut.
- The role requires five days of on-site work per week.
