About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op, you will join our R&D engineering team in Bedford, Massachusetts. You will work on the AEON surgical stapler, contributing to the development of our next generation of products. This is a full-time, six-month position that requires you to be on-site. You will spend your time moving between CAD stations, the lab, and the machine shop to support new product development.
What you'll do#
- Design and revise components and engineering drawings to meet industry and internal standards.
- Create test fixtures to evaluate the performance of new components.
- Fabricate fixtures using in-house rapid prototyping or by working with outside vendors.
- Plan and execute engineering tests on new products.
- Write the test protocols and engineering reports required to document your findings.
- Operate lab equipment, including mills, lathes, test stands, and 3D printers, with minimal supervision.
- Use calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, and other instruments to perform functional and dimensional quality checks.
- Manage the documentation required by our quality system to ensure your work meets regulatory requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at an accredited university as an undergraduate or graduate student in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Prior experience through a co-op, internship, or substantial hands-on project in engineering or manufacturing.
- A working knowledge of 3D CAD.
- Ability to read and create engineering drawings, including the basics of GD&T.
- Comfort working with shop machinery such as mills, lathes, band saws, and belt sanders.
- Experience with FDM and SLA 3D printers is a plus.
- Familiarity with machining, injection molding, or metal stamping is a plus.
- Coursework or project experience in statistics, design of experiments, or test method development is a plus.

- Compensation: $28.00 to $34.00 per hour.
