About the role#
The Nurse Extern II position is designed for nursing students currently enrolled in an accredited program. You will work alongside registered nurses to gain clinical experience and build skills to prepare for your future career. This role focuses on direct patient care and supporting the care delivery team in various healthcare settings.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct patient care, including treatments and diagnostic studies.
- Conduct patient rounds, anticipate needs, and respond to call lights.
- Communicate patient findings, changes, or problems to the RN.
- Use verbal and non-verbal communication with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Perform technical skills based on your clinical specialty.
- Complete quality control checks on unit equipment.
- Support unit-based patient experience goals and assist with new staff orientation.
- Use technology to support alternative modes of care delivery.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Enrollment in an accredited School of Nursing with completion of the sophomore year or equivalent.
- Proof of a minimum 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize patient care assignments.
- Successful completion of orientation and maintenance of unit-specific competencies.
