About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to support the South Asia team at Legal Action Worldwide, specifically focusing on the Myanmar, Rohingya, and Afghanistan crises. Interns gain insight into the operations of a frontline legal organization working in complex and conflict-affected contexts. The role is remote, with a preferred core overlap between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Indian Standard Time (IST).
What you'll do#
- Research questions of Public International Law, International Criminal Law, and International Human Rights Law, particularly regarding sexual and gender-based crimes.
- Assist with high-level advocacy strategies and support engagements at forums such as the HRC, UNGA, and ASP.
- Draft and edit materials for legal information dissemination to victims and survivors.
- Support the coordination and follow-up for stakeholder engagements with Member States and other key actors.
- Monitor and report on updates regarding international law and policy developments.
- Assist with the adaptation of training materials, documentation support for capacity-building sessions, and knowledge management.
- Help draft and format funding proposals and concept notes.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an LLM program, final year of an undergraduate law degree, or status as a recent law graduate.
- Background knowledge in International Law, specifically International Human Rights Law or International Criminal Law.
- Fluency in English.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and strong technical literacy.
- Strong desk research, drafting, and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
- Prior experience in research, human rights initiatives, or non-profit work is preferred, as is experience with the Afghanistan context.
Location & details#
- This position is fully remote.
- The internship is offered on a rolling basis starting September 2026.
- It may be completed part-time (minimum 15 hours per week) for at least one law school semester or full-time for three to six months.
- A stipend is provided, subject to local laws and individual circumstances, including external funding or academic credit eligibility.
