About the role#
This summer internship offers graduate students and recent graduates the chance to engage in practical research within our Strategic Deterrence Directorate. You will work alongside scientists, engineers, and technical staff to support projects involving numerical methods, machine learning, and computational physics. This is a full-time position that provides a blend of in-person and virtual work.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research in your assigned area under limited supervision.
- Support the documentation, testing, and modification of laboratory software, hardware, or computer operating systems.
- Perform technical assignments of basic complexity to assist scientists with research and development projects.
- Present your findings through formal presentations or poster sessions.
- Carry out other technical duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- You must be a U.S. citizen. This is a federal requirement.
- You are a current graduate student in good standing or have recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
- You hold a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- You have experience applying scientific or engineering principles to solve technical problems.
- You are comfortable with coding in languages such as Python or C++.
- You are proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- You can communicate complex ideas clearly and work effectively within a team.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Livermore, California.
- The position follows a hybrid schedule, allowing for one day of remote work per week.
- The internship is a paid, full-time commitment for Summer 2027.
- Selected candidates must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test, which includes testing for marijuana.
