About the role#
The Data Science Institute Graduate Student Internship program offers hands-on research experience for students who have earned a bachelor's degree and are enrolled in a graduate program by Fall 2027. Interns work alongside scientists, engineers, and technical staff to support projects in fields including computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, and engineering. This is a paid, full-time position.
What you'll do#
- Provide technical and research support to scientific projects.
- Support the documentation, testing, and modification of laboratory software, hardware, or computer operating systems.
- Conduct research under limited direction and supervision.
- Perform technical assignments of basic to moderate complexity.
- Participate in the Data Science Summer Institute curriculum, including a team challenge, networking, seminars, and tours.
- Present individual and team results to laboratory staff through presentations or poster sessions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a graduate program by Fall 2027 in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related STEM field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Experience applying computational science or mathematical principles to solve technical problems.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate concepts effectively.
- Must be 18 years or older at the start of the internship.
- Must be eligible to access the laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the NDAA.
Location & details#
- Location: Livermore, California.
- Term: Summer 2027 (Cohort 1: May 17 - August 6; Cohort 2: June 21 - September 10).
- Modality: Hybrid or on-site, depending on the specific assignment.
- Compensation: $10,215 monthly.
- Requirements: Selected candidates must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
