    About the role#

    As a Bridge Engineering Intern at KPFF, you will work with experienced engineers on transportation infrastructure projects. You will gain hands-on experience with bridge analysis, design, plan development, and construction support. You will learn how technical decisions respond to site conditions, agency requirements, and project goals.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with analysis and design of bridge components and related transportation structures under the guidance of licensed professional engineers.
    • Prepare and check engineering calculations, design sketches, quantities, and supporting documentation.
    • Support the development of plans, details, and technical deliverables using structural analysis and computer-aided design software.
    • Coordinate with engineers, technicians, and other disciplines to understand project constraints and develop practical solutions.
    • Contribute to team discussions, quality-control reviews, and problem-solving efforts.
    • Participate in our Weekly Intern Training Series and other mentoring opportunities.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Civil or Structural Engineering.
    • Completed coursework in statics and mechanics of materials by the start of the internship.
    • Completed at least two design courses, such as concrete, steel, wood, or masonry, by the start of the internship.
    • Basic understanding of structural engineering fundamentals, including free-body diagrams and shear, axial, and moment diagrams.
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in undergraduate coursework.
    • Strong technical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with the ability to work collaboratively.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Interest in bridge engineering, transportation structures, and infrastructure design.
    • Pursuing a Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred.
    • Previous internship, research, design-team, or field experience related to civil or structural engineering is preferred.
    • Interest in pursuing a career in bridge or transportation structural engineering is preferred.

    • Location: Boise, Idaho.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Type: Full-time, paid internship.
    • Work environment: Interns primarily work in a standard office setting with occasional travel to project sites. Field visits may involve walking, standing, climbing slopes, or navigating uneven terrain.
