About the role#
Kirkham Michael is hiring Civil Engineering Interns for the Summer 2027 term. You will work in our Lincoln or Omaha offices under the direction of a senior team member. This role provides hands-on experience by applying your engineering education to practical design and field projects. You will receive instruction on specific tasks and project components, including training in AutoCAD Civil 3D or Microstation GeoPak.
What you'll do#
- Observe construction activities and assist with materials testing.
- Perform basic survey services.
- Conduct bridge inspections in the field and help write inspection reports.
- Perform standard engineering computations and analysis.
- Complete drawing assignments to assist in the development of project plans.
- Support hydrology and hydraulics studies.
- Assist with report preparation and the preparation of permit applications.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Civil Engineering at an accredited university.
- Ability to apply fundamental civil engineering concepts and procedures.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- High level of creativity.
- Solid decision-making, planning, and organizational skills.
- A valid Driver's License.
- Experience in transportation or construction engineering is preferred but not required.
